OUR HISTORY
In 1991, Zenaida Mendez founded THE DOMINICAN WOMEN'S CAUCUS in New York along with Ana Victoria Lamarche and Yaneris Urbáez, women's rights activists. It was a very important activism, because we were looking for Dominican women to get involved in New York politics. There was (and there is still) the need for more women to run for mayor, senators, councilwomen, assemblywomen, and more women commissioners. Dominican women have been always very involved in politics in the Dominican Republic, they followed closely what was going on there. So the Caucus mission became for them to understand that we were in New York and that they had to be involved in their own affairs. During this time, the Caucus were able to make thousands of women American citizens so they could vote, we celebrated International Women's Day, participated in rallies and demonstrations, We had programs for young women who are now excellent professionals who were able to attend top universities. After a brief pause in the Caucus' activities, Zenaida Mendez revamped the organization into what is today the National Dominican Women's Caucus.
"The NDWC is proposing a vision that will focus on building leaders with a new framework of thinking. Our trainings and seminars, New Role for a New Age, are designed to assist leaders and their organizations thrive in this new era."
